5 Facts About Vaping You Probably Didn't Know
You might have known that vaping is quickly surpassing smoking as a nicotine delivery system, but there are lots of other facts about vaping you might not have heard. Here are five of the most interesting. Halo offers a wide variety of e-liquid products, including our award-winning menthol tobacco e-liquid, CBD products, and vape hardware.
The majority of people in the U.S. have at least heard about vaping, but not that many people actually know much about it. If you're interested in learning a little bit more about the history of vape devices, here are a few facts about vaping.
The very first electronic cigarette was made in the 1960s.
In 1965, a man named Herbert A. Gilbert was granted a patent for the very first electronic cigarette device. The inventor created this device as an alternative to smoking cigarettes, because he was gravely concerned about the health effects of cigarette smoking.
The contemporary electronic cigarette was designed by a pharmacist whose own father died of lung cancer.
Vaping devices that we are familiar with today are largely inspired by the design of a pharmacist in China named Hon Lik. After his father succumbed to lung cancer from decades of smoking, Hon tested a variety of nicotine delivery methods, including nicotine patches, but discovered that none of them achieved a comparable sensation to smoking until he engineered his first electronic cigarette device. His invention was essentially the design and engineering precursor to the vape pens and e-cigarettes we used today.
A high proportion of e-liquids sold do not contain nicotine.
It seems surprising that a solution designed to wean people off of nicotine would be used by people who don't smoke anymore, but a large number of vapers use nicotine-free products. A significant percentage of vapers use vape pen juice without nicotine just to enjoy the vaping experience.
Vaping is cheaper than smoking.
When you compare the cost of purchasing a year's worth of cigarettes to the amount of money spent on vaping devices and e-liquids in the same time frame, it's not even close. A vaping starter kit, including the device and e-liquid, costs approximately $29.99. The device itself may last for several years, and the e-liquid might last up to several months of moderate use. Cigarettes, by contrast, cost an average of $6.30 per pack. So, $30 can either purchase five packs of cigarettes (one month's supply for a mild smoker and one week's supply for a heavy smoker) or a vaping starter kit.
Competitive vaping is a thing.
Vaping competitions offer cash prizes for a variety of vaping tricks, like producing the biggest clouds and blowing vape rings into different, complex shapes. These competitors use mechanical mods especially designed to create massive amounts of vapor. Winners have collected thousands of dollars in prizes; the World Vaping Championship has offered prize purses of $100,000.
