The X Games Minneapolis 2017 Experience

The X Games Minneapolis 2017 Experience

Thrills, spills, and mad skillz are about to hit the Midwest head on. For the first time ever, the X Games will be held in Minneapolis. The world’s top BMX (bikes), Moto X (motorbikes), and skateboarding pros will wow residents and visitors of the City of Lakes July 13 through July 16.

Let the Games Begin

What should you expect from the world’s premier extreme sports event? All the gravity-defying, heart-stopping stunts and competitions that get spectators’ adrenaline going and keep them coming back every year. There’ll be flips, jumps, and high-speed action until well after dark.

Live music will cap off each day’s excitement, with artists including Flume, Atmosphere, and A Day to Remember scheduled to appear.

City of Cool

Minneapolis is no stranger to cool, and we’re not just talking about the average low temperature of 8° F they endure every January. Minneapolis natives are a “who’s who” of cool. The late, great Prince. The Coen Brothers (creators of “The Big Lebowski,” among other films. MacGyver (aka Richard Freakin’ Dean Anderson), too! The city is known for bold originals whose work you can never forget, making it a perfect host city for the X Games.

But Wait, There’s More …

St. Paul may be the capital of Minnesota, but between the Twin Cities, Minneapolis gets all the attention. Check out their thriving arts scene, museums, classic architecture, and with the countless lakes, all the boating and kayaking options. Oh, and if you think Mississippi River cruises are strictly a New Orleans thing, you may be surprised to learn that some of the best sightseeing cruises originate in Minneapolis.

After you’ve had your fill of extreme sports, finish off with a traditional one: baseball. The Twins will be playing a three-game series against the Yankees starting on July 17. (If you want to catch the Twins during the X Games, you’ll need a TV, because they’ll be in Houston.) The NFL, NHL, and NBA will all be out of season.

The immense Mall of America, which doubles as an indoor theme park (roller coaster and all!), is just a few miles south of Minneapolis.

When you get hungry, grab a Juicy Lucy (that’s Minnesotan for “big, messy burger”), dig into some “hot dish” (a casserole covered with tater tots), and don’t forget a side of deep-fried cheese curds (hurt so good). Finish off with a dessert bar (not a place, but a thing … a sweet, tasty thing).

You’ve Got a Friend in Town

The primary location of X Games events is U.S. Bank Stadium in the Downtown East area. If you get lost or are just looking for something to do, Minneapolis DID (Downtown Improvement District) Ambassadors are there to help. It’s their job to make you feel welcome and get you where you need to go. And they’re everywhere. You can’t miss their fluorescent yellow-ish shirts.

The X Games are scheduled to return to Minneapolis in 2018, which means they already expect this year’s games to be amazing. If you go, have an awesome time!
