Halo: Where did your store name come from?

John: My wife and I tossed around lot of different names. It was a play on words, I guess, with “great escape.” I like the word “escape” We thought (Vape Escape) worked really well.

Halo: How long have you been in business?

John: Three years.

Halo: Do you have more than one location?

John: Within the first 14 months we had five locations. And then we said, “No more!” (laughs)

Halo: Why did you start selling vape products?

John: I’m kind of an entrepreneur. I’ve opened and started quite a few different businesses. I run several at the moment as well. I was like, let’s try this. I’ve never done retail before, but we jumped into it, saw success right away, and kept at it.

Halo: What do you like best about selling vape products?

John: It’s a pretty fun little business. It keeps me on my toes. It is a lot of work keeping up with all the new products and stuff like that. People enjoy it. I see a lot of the same customers. So it’s a pretty good little business to be in.

Halo: What do you want customers to know about your store?

John: We have a great staff. A great reward program. A great selection. Always have new flavors coming in. And competitive prices. We try to run a very clean, ethical business. We follow the rules. Treat people right.

Halo: What’s your customers’ favorite Halo flavor?

John: If I had to pick one, SubZero. The tobaccos, and the SubZero and Kringle’s Curse, those two have been rock solid since the day we opened the doors. You were one of the first lines that we picked up. Some of the tobacco flavors dipped at the beginning, and now they’ve kind of come back and now they sell pretty steadily. There’s a lot of dedicated people to Halo. That’s their flavor and they don’t deviate.

Halo: What’s the first question customers ask you?

John: “What new flavors do you have on the shelf?” Customers always ask what’s new. That’s probably the number one question. That’s why we keep new flavors constantly coming in.

Halo: Do you vape?

John: I do. I got into it through being in the business. I’ve been doing it for about two years, maybe.

Halo: What does vaping mean to you?

John: I enjoy the flavors. I never liked cigarettes.

Halo: Do you think the public has misconceptions about vaping?

John: There are a lot of misconceptions and then there’s a sheer lack of knowledge about. People are curious as to what exactly it is. How it works. And then there are people who’ve heard different things that are misleading about it. They think that it’s something that it’s not. I have seen that quite a bit when telling people what I do.
