Get to Know Our Veterans

Get to Know Our Veterans

In honor of Veterans Day, we wanted to give our typical “Get to Know Halo” post a military makeover.

Today we introduce to you some of the men and women behind Halo, but most importantly, the men and women who have dedicated their lives for the wonderful country we live in.

We can’t thank them enough!

Jeffrey Stamler

Halo employee since: 2009
Title: CEO and Co-Founder
Military service: U.S. Army Ranger, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: Malibu

Jeff is the co-founder and CEO of Halo. He served in the U.S. Army for three years. Upon graduating high school, Jeff knew his path was not to continue school, but to serve his country.

Despite life’s challenges, Jeff maintains a positive perspective that is spread throughout the Halo Headquarters. He also finds happiness through his kids. “My kids know that I love them, but I don’t think they know how much joy they bring to me,” says Jeff.

Jeff has many fond memories of his military service, but delights in the friendships that were made. “My proudest moment really isn’t a moment or accomplishment, It’s the friendships and comradery that develops between the guy to your left and right. Although I haven’t spoken to many of my Army Ranger brothers in years, I know if I called them tomorrow and needed help, they would do everything and anything possible to help me – as I would for them,” says Jeff.

Bill Banet

Halo employee since: 2015
Title: Account Manager
Military service: E-5, Staff Sergeant, 690th Electronic Security Wing
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: Black Calico

Bill is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He served for 10 years as a Polish linguist in Berlin. His father also served in the military and ultimately inspired him to join. As Bill says, “I wanted to do something patriotic and follow in the footsteps of my father.”

During his military service, Bill learned to speak German and Polish. Learning a second language came easy to Bill because he knows how to play music – which is like a second language in and of itself. He plays guitar and the electric bass.

The night the Berlin Wall came down was the moment Bill realized that his military service was worthwhile. He recounts this as his most proud moment during his service in the Air Force.

Jason “Jag” Elliot

Halo employee since: 2015
Title: Lead Front End Developer
Military service: Staff Sergeant-E6-10th Mountain 4th Brigade
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: Malibu

Jag was in New York on September 11, 2001. After that horrific day, he knew he had a calling to serve this great country. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for seven years.

While deployed in Afghanistan, Jag experienced his first fire fight, which he says was like a scene out of a movie. “It’s like you’re going to battle, and you don’t know if you’re going to come out of it so you go in strong,” says Jag. His battalion was surrounded 360 degrees on a mountain top and shots were coming at them from all directions. They were dug in bunkers, which also happened to be the home of scorpions, snakes, and camel spiders. Jag describes himself as a truther. He is heavily involved in researching, studying, investigating human origins, ancient history, ancient civilizations, ancient religions, ancient faith, theology, and archeological finds. He loves solving puzzles.

George Campbell

Halo employee since: 2016
Title: Wholesale Manager
Military service: Specialist-E4-31 Uniform-Communications
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: Tribeca – “I like anything that helps our customers quit cigarettes,” says George.

George is a family man who is passionate about his faith. He served in the U.S. Army for four years so he could later have a way to pay for college.

As an 18-year-old soldier, George was awarded the Super Numerator Award during his advanced training. This honor is awarded to the best soldier in the unit for guard duty and completing certain tasks. “I was proud of it because I was only 18 years old and I’d never won anything. I won other stuff after that, but as an 18-year-old kid and knowing there was so many other people who could’ve won that, it felt pretty good to me,” says George. During his down time, George enjoys walking his family’s rescue dog – a pit bull named Zoe. He loves sports and real estate. George has been a realtor for 15 years and owns his own LLC.

Bill Geoghegan

Halo employee since: 2013
Title: Operations
Military service: Staff Segeant-E-3, 81st Medical Squadron, Histopathology
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: Tribeca

Bill grew up with a deep appreciation for those who volunteered their time (and possibly life) to protect this great nation. His father served as well as both his grandfathers. Their examples led Bill to enlist in the U.S. Air Force after finishing one year of college.

“When I was in high school and the first gulf war began, my first thought was to help. Being too young, I never got that chance and by the time I was out of high school the war was over. As I took my first ‘baby steps’ outside of college, I felt as though I was missing something, some direction. Joining the Air Force was the best thing that could have happened to me at that early age. It gave me a sense of honor, purpose, duty. I joined so that if needed I could protect those I love, and give back to the country that has given me so much,” says Bill.

Bill is passionate about politics and history. He also has an incredible artistic eye. Ask him to show you his sketches and you’ll be amazed!

Chris Vickers

Halo employee since: 2015
Title: Manager of Picking
Military service: AG2
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: Tribeca

Chris served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was stationed at the Naval Aviation Facility in Atsugi, Japan. One of the proudest moments Chris experienced during his service was when he achieved his site waiver to be a Forecaster. “It’s a certification that allows you to do a more advanced job (forecasting in this instance) without attending the advanced schooling,” says Chris.

These days, Chris is a devoted father. His hobbies include fishing and football.

Sharon McGuire

Halo employee since: 2015
Title: Shipping & Receiving Coordinator
Military service: CWO3(Chief Warrant Officer 3)/VMR-1(Marine Transport Squadron 1)
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: I don’t vape, but I love the smell of Wild Watermelon.

Sharon wakes up every morning thinking what a precious privilege it is to be alive. She dedicated 23 years, 10 months and 15 days to this great country serving in the United States Marine Corps (but who’s counting?). “I joined the military because it gave me the opportunity to go to college and serve our country,” says Sharon. You can see the love she has for America just by looking at her.

Her faith in God is her passion. If you want to start a conversation with Sharon, just ask her about her church and movies. She loves sharing her thoughts on both.

Bob Hiltabidel

Halo employee since: 2015
Title: Facility Maintenance Manager Gainesville
Military service: Specialist 5, 2nd Infantry Division,4th Infantry Division and 2nd Engineer Battalion
Favorite Halo e-liquid flavor: Bob doesn’t vape, but his wife vapes Kringle’s Curse mixed with Shamrock.

Bob served four years in the U.S. Army, two years in the National Guard, and two years inactive Reserve. Throughout his years of service, the proudest moment, he says, was the day he enlisted and took the oath to protect this country.

His father was an infantry electrical lineman during World War II. The stories he shared with Bob of what he saw and did (although certainly edited for a son’s ears) while being stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea sounded great, as well as the close camaraderie with the other guys and the lifelong bonds they formed. When Bob asked his father why he joined the Army he told him he did not have a choice since being drafted, but he would have enlisted anyhow because of the threat that Japan would invade the States, and he wanted to do his part to stop that.

“When I was contemplating enlisting, I spoke with my father about it, asking his advice, he simply told me to go out buy a newspaper (there was no internet at that time) read the headlines and decide what would be the right thing to do. My inspiration for joining the military in one word, ‘Father,'” says Bob.

We want to thank all the men and women who have served the United States of America. If you served in the military, we’d love to hear your story about your service and what inspired you to join. Comment below!
