Best Places to Ring in the New Year

Best Places to Ring in the New Year

Did you know the countries of Samoa and Kiribati are the first locations to begin the new year? These countries are way off the coast of Australia, but if you can get to one of them, it’d be an incredible experience to enter the new year about 20 hours before your friends and family.

If you’re looking for somewhere closer to home to go for New Year’s Eve, we have options for you. In our Holiday Travel Options blog, we talk about great travel destinations for the holiday season. This blog focuses specifically on places to be to ring in 2018. So, take a look to see if you’re nearby one of our NYE recommendations.

Oregon is home to “Portland’s Most Famous New Year’s Eve Party.” The Champagne Ball has been an annual event for 27 years, so the staff must be doing something right. The Ball is a classy event where guests can dress up and dance the night away. This year, the Champagne Ball includes music, 18 bars, food, party favors, and four individually themed party rooms. In our eyes, this party has everything you need for a fun New Year’s Eve!

Austin has countless NYE parties. Some themes include the roaring ‘20s, a Latin masquerade, and a jungle glam party. Whichever party you choose, they all seem to include drinks, food, party favors, and music; the perfect ingredients for New Year’s Eve.

New York

Of course you can watch the ball drop in NYC, but you can also observe the holiday on the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Cruise or go to one of the many clubs that are hosting New Year’s Eve parties. If you’re looking for something different to do, go on the Midnight Run or the Brooklyn Bridge Walk Into the New Year Tour.

San Francisco also has an annual NYE fireworks show and special event cruises to go on. For a quieter celebration, go to Mission Dolores Park with champagne to relish the beautiful city scenery and toast to the end of the year, or go to A New Year’s Event With Seth MacFarlane and the San Francisco Symphony. Another option, New Bohemia NYE 2018, really caught our attention. This event has live musicians, dancers, and DJs. What makes it stand out? It’s for 21 and over only and includes bondage demos, make out rooms, and interactive games. It definitely looks like a fascinating way to start the new year!

The Las Vegas strip is closed to traffic on New Year’s Eve, so everyone can party outside. Over 80,000 fireworks will be launched from the rooftops of seven casinos. To get a breathtaking view of the show, watch the fireworks from a helicopter. You can also celebrate on the High Roller or the Eiffel Tower Experience, see one of the New Year’s Eve shows, or go to one of the city’s several NYE parties.

The Creole Queen and the Steamboat Natchez will both offer New Year’s Eve cruises with food, drinks, and music. Instead of a ball drop, New Orleans has an annual fleur-de-lis drop in the French Quarter. (Fleur-de-lis is a stylized lily flower symbol that represents French royalty). Jackson Square is a good spot to see the drop, enjoy live music, and watch the fireworks show that’s done above the Mississippi River. After the fleur-de-lis drop and the fireworks, head to Bourbon Street to keep the party going.

Home Is Where the Heart Is

If you prefer to honor the holiday at home, you can host your own get-together with friends. Here’s what you need:
-Decorations (banners, balloons, and ribbons)
-Appetizers and champagne
-New Year’s-themed tableware and drinkware
-Wearables (glasses, masks, and cone hats)
-Poppers, noisemakers, and confetti cannons
Adult games and a New Year’s photobooth
