A Beginner’s Guide to Becoming a YouTube Vape Reviewer
With the vast amount of e-liquids and vape hardware circulating the marketplace, there’s an excellent chance that you’ve found yourself checking out reviews on YouTube. In this digital age, for one purpose or another, we seek the opinions of others prior to making the decision to buy something, vape product or not. If you’ve watched even just a handful of reviews, you may have observed that many reviewers preface their analysis with something along the lines of “this product was given to me for free for the purpose of this review.” Yes, they’re receiving FREE products, and now you want free stuff to, right? One of the quickest ways to gain someone’s attention is by dropping the word “free”. If you’re looking to score your vape swag, here’s what we suggest you do:
Getting Vape Products to Review
If you’re not fluent in the science and terminology of social media, you probably don’t have much of a following on YouTube, which means your first line of action will be to grow your channel. Since very few things in life are “truly” free, businesses strategically offer products to reviewers for promotional reasons. You’re going to have to make an initial investment and purchase new gear or else, you can review the products you already own.
Just like any other emerging competitive industry, the vape world moves fast and products fall out of fashion in a blink of an eye. Whatever you choose to assess might not be the latest and greatest on the market, but the fact is, you have a ton of experience using it, and are just as qualified to share your opinions and findings as any other self-proclaimed expert. At the end of the day, conveying your genuine experience is all that viewers really want.
Take a second and think about reviews that had the greatest impact on your past purchases. What was their tone? Were they upbeat and engaging or monotone and boring? The point is, if you have an amazing personality, people tend to care less about the specific product you’re reviewing and more about you. Vape review followers love the personalities and entertainment factors associated with the reviewers almost as much as the vape gear they are using.
How to Review Your Product
Mods and Atomizers
We recommend spending a substantial amount of time with a product before reviewing it. It’s essential to have a solid understanding of all of its features and different use-cases. If the mod you’re reviewing has temperature control, use all of the wires it supports to make sure they all perform as they should. Even if there are features that you don’t normally use, your viewers might, and they’ll appreciate that you’ve taken the time to cover it.
As for atomizers, test the different types of coils (gauges, wire types, and special builds) and see how they perform. Identify construction quality and establish what kind of airflow options are available. Is the airflow better for vapers who like mouth-to-lung vaping or is it better suited for those who prefer straight lung hits? Consider all the different types of vapers out there, and not just yourself.
E-liquid is the easiest place to start for new reviewers because it’s one of the most affordable components of vaping. Additionally, flavors are bought on a regular basis. We’re not going out on a limb here by assuming you probably have at least a few different e-juices laying around, so start with those.
Here are some characteristics to think about when reviewing E-liquid:
● The quality of the bottle / label
● Does it taste like the description?
● What specific notes do you taste?
● How is the throat hit?
● How is the vapor production?
Practice with some older bottles of e-juice laying around, as you have a special opportunity to provide some insight into how it has changed after steeping. Take the chance to stand out from other reviewers as the majority only do first impressions.
Recording and Publishing Your Review
Now you have a product in hand and you’re ready to record. Find the highest-quality camera you have, and get to recording. A digital camera, your smartphone, or webcam will work. In order to stay focused and not deviate from the intended message, we recommend writing out a brief script or outline.
After you’ve recorded the video, use a free video editing software such as Window’s Movie Maker, iMovie, or even YouTube Video Editor to clean/edit it the final version.
After your video is complete, upload it to YouTube and you’re on your way to becoming the next influential voice in the vaping community!
